Description
Amid 16 acres, surrounded by calm woodland slopes on the banks of the River Conwy, this Victorian country house offers a unique location in the village, with an emphasis on peace and quiet.

Craig-y-Dderwen is a traditional hotel in the small, but popular village of Betws-y-Coed. Just 5-10 minutes' walk from the village centre, Craig-y-Dderwen is the only hotel situated away from its busy main road.

Most rooms have beautiful views of either the Conwy Valley or the flowing river.

The Riverside Restaurant also overlooks the river and offers AA Rosette-quality cuisine. A choice of bars means you can either relax beside a real log fire, or overlook the 16 acres of hotel grounds.

Hotel information
Privately owned, the traditional values of courtesy and service are strong at the Craig-y-Dderwen.

The hotel was built in 1890 as a private house and was converted to a hotel in the early 1920s. During World War II it was used for secret operations by the British Ministry of Defence.

Edward Elgar, the famous composer, spent much time here relaxing on the riverbank and enjoying the views, which are mostly the same since that time.

Food & beverage
The Riverside Restaurant overlooks the River Conwy and features traditional Welsh ingredients, as well as vegetarian and whole food cuisine. With a good reputation, the restaurant has earned a rosette award from the AA.

The hotel has a traditional bar with a welcoming winter log fire. There is also a conservatory bar, which has a large decking area for relaxing with views of the grounds and river.

The wine cellar contains a selection of over 120 traditional and New World wines, which have been selected by the current owners to offer the best choice possible.
