Description
A warm welcome awaits you at this family-run hotel that has much charm and character, and is ideally located on the edge of the village of Dinas Mawddwy in Snowdonia.

Nestled within the beautiful Dyfi Valley, with the River Dyfi (Dovey) located behind it, the hotel offers you a picturesque countryside location. Situated on the edge of the village of Dinas Mawddwy, Gwynedd, the hotel is easily accessible from the A470 and is located between Dolgellau and Machynlleth.

A selection of beers is available in the hotel’s bar and bistro, and when the weather is good you can enjoy a drink in the beer garden where you can take in the spectacular scenery. For the hungry traveller the hotel serves a wide choice of traditional food from their menu together with your selection of wine from the carefully selected list.

Hotel information
This smoke-free hotel is a 3-storey, purpose-built Victorian hotel, built in 1873 by Sir Edmund Buckley, the man responsible for bringing the railways to this part of Wales. It is a grade 2 listed building, reputedly the oldest reinforced concrete building in Europe, and the 2nd oldest in the world.


Food & beverage
All room rates include breakfast which comprises fruit juice, cereal, a choice from the hot menu, toast and tea or coffee. This is served in the Dyfi View Restaurant taking in the spectacular views of the Dyfi Valley and Snowdonia. With prior notice we are pleased to cater for restricted diets.

For casual dining we have a full and varied dinner menu with a carefully selected wine list served at your pleasure in our bistro. Your choice from our bar is always available to residents. We are pleased to provide packed lunches should you so wish for your day out, at other times we have a Light Bite Menu available at lunchtimes.


Area information
We are located at the southern edge of Snowdonia National Park, Gwynedd, Wales surrounded by the most spectacular scenery. All sorts of outdoor activities including hiking, cycling, golf, sightseeing, horse riding, fishing (in season only) and shooting are available in the surrounding area.

You can be at the west coast of Wales in around 20-30 minutes by car, or for a challenge you climb Cader Idris that is only 20 minutes away.

There are many steam railways close by, or for those who like something a bit different, the RAF carry out low fly training in the area and there are several local vantage points for viewing where the aircraft can be seen flying below you.


Travel information
By Car:
Buckley Arms Hotel is located on the main A470 north/south road through Wales. Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham Airports are around 2 hours drive away.

By Rail:
The nearest rail connection is 13 miles away.

By Bus:
Buses stop about 100 metres from the hotel although these are infrequent. From Dolgellau the bus makes a weekly visit on Wednesdays. From Machynlleth buses call daily.

If any material damage to hotel property (including theft) is discovered subsequent to check-out, then the replacement cost will be charged to the guest.

Please note that extra beds are not suitable for adults. The third person accommodated in this room in the extra bed must be a child under 10 years old.

Room Types
We have 6 rooms available; 2 double, 2 twin and 2 large double. All rooms have en suite bathroom; 4 have separate baths and showers, 2 have baths with showers over them. We have available towelling bath robes for your comfort. Also included are bottles of Welsh spring water for your refreshment. Ironing facilities and trouser presses are available upon request.

Premier Double Four-Poster Room
Sir Edmund Buckley is the hotel’s four-poster premier room, which features a large bay window, with fabulous views overlooking the River Dyfi and the Aran Mountain range to the rear. The quoted price is based on 2 adults sharing the room. In addition, one child under 10 years old can also be accommodated in this room in an extra bed at an additional cost. Please see the Children and Extra Beds section for further details and additional costs. Please note that the extra bed is not suitable for adults and that the third person accommodated in this room in the extra bed must be a child under 10 years old.

Premier King Room
Snowdon is a premier king room with a bed that is 5 feet (1.52 metres) in width. The room has a large bay window overlooking the Dyfi Valley and the river with the Aran Mountain range in all its glory behind.

Superior King Room
Celtic is a superior room with a king-size sleigh bed. The room overlooks the mountain, Moel Dinas, and the forest to the front of the hotel.

Standard Twin Room
The room overlooks the Moel Dinas mountain and forest to the front of the hotel.

Standard Double Room
Aran is the standard double room with a sleigh bed. The room overlooks the Moel Dinas mountain and forest to the front of the hotel.

Superior Twin Room
Dyfi, named after the river it overlooks, is the superior twin room with views towards the Aran mountain range. This room is directly above the kitchen and so there may be some noise from the extractor fan during evening dinner service.
